Solid Waste Transfer Facility Project
The garbage collection system on the reserve is about to change. Work has begun on construction of 36 waste collection sites where large 6 cubic yards bins will be located. Garbage will continue to be collected at the homes and deposited in these bins. Large compactor trucks will empty these bins and transport the garbage to the Regional Landfill near Debden.
In the area of the existing landfill, a Transfer Station will be constructed for collection of larger garbage into large dumpsters which will also be trucked off the reserve. There will also be areas for sorting of recyclable garbage such as tires, appliances and lumber.
The existing landfill (garbage dump) will be decommissioned. The project will be completed in late summer with new garbage bins throughout the community. Watch for new information.
